French Winemaking Cultural Book
DELIVERABLES: Editorial Design, Photography, Type Design
ROLE: Designer, Photographer, and Writer
OVERVIEW
This project was an editorial design focused on portraying important aspects of culture. Events, landmarks, important historical dates: the pieces forming the ideas of a culture. The French have a rich history, and this book focuses on a small piece of French culture: winemaking. A tradition spanning over 6,000 years, wine has become one of France’s main exports and is a marker of heritage and prestige.
RESULTS
This book explores French winemaking techniques, regions, and pairings for the complete compilation of all things related to France’s winemaking culture. The headings for each page are hand-lettered, inspired by the Art Nouveau movement and vintage wine labels. The photographs of the arrangements and wine process were taken during the book’s creation, as a devotion to authenticity. The remainder of the book used these photos to create collages for decorative pieces and infographics. The outside cover is made to appear like a vintage wine label wrapping around a bottle.
